It has been, at least, couple years (yes, I write couple years like couple days 😅) since I wanted to get serious into body-weight and calisthenics workouts.
The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kállos (κάλλος), which means "beauty" and sthenos (σθένος), meaning "strength".1. It is the art of using one's body weight as resistance to develop physique. (Wikipedia)
There are many types of body-weight exercises that one can do: push-ups, plank, burpee, lunges, jumping jacks to name a few. See 👇🏻
In simple words it is a form of strength training that primarily uses your own body and there is no need for equipment (although, it doesn’t limit if you have access to). The reason I have been wanting to get into body-weight routine is because all I need is my body. I can use it anywhere I am and it takes so much less effort to get started. That simple❗No, actually, it is not😁. If everything was that simple, millions of people would be in shape right now 💪
That’s why in the middle of March of this year (2023 by the way 😅) I pulled the trigger and set myself a goal of doing at least 20 push-ups on a daily basis. This was in tandem with another self-discipline challenge we at running community at DAV.TJ were doing - setting monthly running goals to develop running habit. Nothing crazy here (by the way, I said the same thing when I started to run on a daily basis “at least 2K every day” 🙈), just 20 push-ups a day, regardless how I am feeling: 🥱tired, 🤧sick, 😵💫injured or 🥴broken.
Another reason why I started with push-ups was because I wanted to bring my upper body in par with my lower body, mainly my legs. Running a lot can make your legs look like body-builder but imagine body-builder with tiny upper body 😂 Chill out, I am not pursuing to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger😤, I just want to be Arnold the Night Runner 🤩 Jokes aside, while running I felt my biceps were getting slimmer and slimmer and my chest was flat. I watched a lot of 📺YouTube videos of ultra runners and they all seemed very slim and skinny🩻, my body resembled their, except my never-going-away belly🤭 On the other side of the pendulum were sprinters with huge muscles and bursting energy 😇
How can I benefit from good shaped body while being able to run long distances🤔. Why not do 20 push ups a day so I magically turn into Arnold x2💭. In all seriousness, by doing 20 push-ups a day, I won’t get the good upper body any time soon but at least it helps me to stack one good habit on top of the other to make sure I take small consistent steps before I see any fruition🍇. That’s why starting from DAY 15 of my #20DailyPushUps, I started to send recorded evidence of my push-ups to one of my dear friends - 🙆🏻♀️Saodat. I have huge respect for her discipline and character, perhaps, that’s why I chose her on a subconscious 🧘🏻♂️mind to send her. Chill, now we have another Telegram group, like minded people, we share video evidence of our daily challenges there 🔥
So, I am in DAY 110 today (hurray for me 🥳) and various sources say different timelines regarding the formation of a habit. Some say you need to do 30 days before it becomes habit, some say you need +60 days. In all honesty, there is no one specific period. Some people tend to form a habit much quicker than others. In my case, doing for a week seemed like I was doing it automatically without a second 🗯️thought. The only thing is in couple instances I 🤦🏻♂️forgot to send 📹video evidence the same day cause I was busy with work and my requirement is that if there is no delivered evidence on the same day, then I consider it as a failed day🥴. So, for every missed day, I pay 3 TJS (around 0.3 cents - yes, I am not yet millionaire to pay 10 bucks for missed day 😂).
If my old days stated with a cup of ☕ because I have my coffee before I go out for running, today it mostly starts with 20 push ups 🤪 What a great a day to start the day with 20 push ups 😂 Can you imagine 🤔yourself every night going to 🛏️bed and thinking the first thing you are going to do tomorrow right after you force yourself out of your 😇warm, comfy bed is to do another 😩horrifying push ups? I bet for most people the answer is no in 99.99999% of the case 😁
I can 📖attest one thing for sure though. Once you start forming one good habit, doing the next one will be easier🧱, at least that’s in my case. My attitude was always don’t do too many things at once. Start small, keep doing it until it feels easy and natural then add little more. Most people start with several 🎯goals at a time and end up with none. For some people it works for some it doesn’t. The only way to figure out is by doing, 📈📉experimenting on your own and 🔬learning. Even if you fail, you will learn a 🔭lesson.
Now, I am 🤩thrilled (now, I am just making it exciting, although I know it’s not going to be as exciting 😁) to share with you that I am determined to add another habit - habit of 📝writing in my blog on a weekly basis (this one, not in Medium.com🙃). Writing is important. All human 🗺️history we now today is because it was ✍️written. If it is not written, it will disappear. So, from the start of July 2023, I am challenging myself that I will write at least one (1) post a week on my blog to help me learn write ☁clearer, better and by doing so share my 📚knowledge and experience with people around me.
For now, I am not defining any specific 📆day to publish the post and not tying to any specific topic or subject. It could be about my 😎life observations, it could be about some 💿software|🖥️hardware I can across that I like, reflection on past 👻events, 🤖AI or future vision👽. Anyhow, if you like to read these kinds of stuff, then let’s get writing in shape.
What began as nothing more than a spark of a thought has now taken shape before us, alive and undeniable. We didn’t just imagine it, we lived it, we felt it, and we proved that a simple idea can become something powerful when we dare to believe in it. This journey reminds me that every dream starts quietly, almost invisibly, yet with courage, effort, and heart, it grows into something that touches our lives and inspires us to keep reaching for more.
At the top of the Double Pass (northern), my brother Firuz asked me about our estimated plan of when we will be reaching the finish. Based on the information we had, I said: “Best plan is we reach by 7 PM, given or taken plus/minus 1 hour.” Little I knew how things could go wrong so fast.
